Adopted as the state butterfly in 2000, Monarch butterflies arrive from Mexico in early spring. Approximately four generations are raised here in Minnesota each summer. The fourth generation migrates up to 3,000 miles back to Mexico where the butterflies spend the winter before starting the migration back to Minnesota.
